Central Carolina Hospital Welcomes New OB-GYN to Sanford

Central Carolina Hospital (CCH) today announced that Steven H. Berliner, MD, FACS, FACOG has joined its staff and will be offering obstetrics & gynecological care, including urogynecology, to patients throughout Sanford, Lee County, and the surrounding area. Dr. Berliner is doubly board-certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology) and obstetrics and gynecology and has been in practice for 39 years.
“Dr. Berliner has years of experience in women’s health, and he is an excellent addition to our hospital team,” said Chris Fensterle, CEO of Central Carolina Hospital. “His expertise will be important as Central Carolina Hospital strives to meet our region’s evolving healthcare needs and make our community healthier.”
Prior to joining CCH, Dr. Berliner was an assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in the section of Gynecologic Oncology and Urogynecology, where he performed many complex robotic surgeries, including benign and gynecologic oncological procedures. In 2016, he joined Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC, treating active duty and dependent patients before retiring in April 2021.
Dr. Berliner completed medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY), an internship at University of Minnesota Health Science Center (Minneapolis, MN), and his Obstetrical and Gynecological residency in obstetrics & gynecology at Albany Medical Center (Albany, NY). He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Berliner is seeing patients at Central Carolina Women’s Health Center at 1140 Carthage Street in Sanford, directly across from the hospital. He offers services in routine obstetrical and high-risk care, general gynecology, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and menopause.
