In fact, the ACS puts the average risk as a one in eight chance that a woman will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. And according to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is now the most common cancer globally, claiming 12 percent of new cancer cases. Breast cancer is also the second leading cause of cancer death in women, superseded only by lung cancer.

  • Central Carolina Hospital Now Offering Virtual Childbirth Education Classes

    Central Carolina Hospital (CCH) is excited to announce the continuation of childbirth education classes, which were previously paused due to the pandemic. Powered online through Birthly, patients are now able to access a larger variety of classes through a virtual platform. Expectant parents can register to sign up for the classes that provide the opportunity to connect through a live video feed with certified and experienced childbirth educators. The educator provides live and interactive teaching with dedicated time for the patient to ask questions.

  • Dr. Samuel Hammonds Joins Central Carolina Hospital

    Central Carolina Hospital today announced that Samuel Hammonds, MD has joined its staff and will be offering orthopaedic and sports medicine services to patients in Sanford and the surrounding region. Dr. Hammonds will join a new practice Central Carolina Orthopaedics, which is part of Central Carolina Physician Practices, the affiliated medical group of the hospital.

    Central Carolina Hospital (CCH) today announced that Steven H. Berliner, MD, FACS, FACOG has joined its staff and will be offering obstetrics & gynecological care, including urogynecology, to patients throughout Sanford, Lee County, and the surrounding area. Dr. Berliner is doubly board-certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology) and obstetrics and gynecology and has been in practice for 39 years.

    Over the past week, I have watched in disbelief as local cases of COVID-19 have climbed in our hospital and across our community once again. Our current COVID-19 situation is worse today than it was in January, and like many hospitals across the region, we are operating at the edge of our capacity. As you can imagine, this fourth wave is taking an extreme toll on our physicians, nurses and other frontline staff, especially since much of what we are facing today is preventable.
