Frank L. Tortora, MD, FACS, has joined Central Carolina Urology and is seeing urology patients biweekly in Sanford as of May 5. He joins the practice of Kevin Khoudary, MD, and Paige Hamilton, MD, at 1139 Carthage Street in the Medical Arts building adjacent to CCH.
“Dr. Tortora is another welcome addition to Central Carolina Hospital and to Sanford,” said Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH. “With his arrival, we continue to expand access and provide expert urological care for the residents of Sanford and Lee County.”
A native of New Haven, CT, Dr. Tortora received his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta in 1977, after completing his undergraduate studies with honors at Yale University in 1973. A board-certified urologist with Associated Urologists of North Carolina (AUNC), Dr. Tortora is a nationally renowned developer of emerging urological techniques and treatments. One of the pioneering procedures he performs in the office is the UroLift®, a minimally invasive approach to treating an enlarged prostate without cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue.
Prior to joining AUNC, Dr. Tortora worked at Western Wake Hospital, where he served as President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of Surgery. He currently serves as a clinical associate professor in the departments of surgery and family practice at the UNC School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Urological Surgeons, and a member of the American Board of Urology.
Outside work, he enjoys traveling, skiing and spending time with his wife, children and labrador retrievers. His hobbies include cooking, reading, camping, gardening and water sports.
