Wound Care Center Receives National Awards

October 21, 2025

The Central Carolina Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center has earned two national awards for its clinical excellence, patient satisfaction and wound healing rates for 2024.

The awards were received from Healogics®, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services:

  • The Center of Distinction award, which recognizes outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92 percent.
  • The Robert A. Warriner III, MD, Clinical Excellence Award for scoring in the top 10 percent of eligible Healogics® Wound Care Centers® on its clinical excellence measure, which is the Comprehensive Healing Rate weighted by wound mix. This award is named for Dr. Warriner, a pioneer in wound care and former Chief Medical Officer for Healogics.

This is the second consecutive year that Central Carolina’s Wound Care program has received the Robert Warriner Clinical Excellence Award, and the third consecutive year that it has received the Center of Distinction award.

“Our Wound Care Center is rightfully well known for its clinical excellence and patient satisfaction,” said Dave Santoemma, CEO of Central Carolina Hospital. “These awards only serve to reinforce what we and many residents of Lee, Harnett, Chatham and Moore counties already know:  that we provide outstanding wound care services.”

The center’s providers, Rebecca Martinez, AGNP-C, Ajay Ajmani, MD, and Todd Sommer, DO, are truly dedicated to the goal of healing every patient who walks through the doors, he said.

Since 2015, the wound care center has offered highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. The center’s wound care experts provide advanced wound care modalities, including negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

The center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen to help progress the healing of the wound.

“We are proud to receive this third consecutive year of national recognition for delivering quality care to our patients,” said Dellena Sellars, Program Director. “Our entire team of nurses, advanced practitioners and physicians achieves clinical outcomes that give every patient the opportunity to help their chronic wounds and reclaim their quality of life.”

The Central Carolina Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is among more than 600 wound care centers nationwide that belong to the Healogics network. For more information, visit https://www.centralcarolinahosp.com/wound-care.
