New OB/GYN brings her training to Sanford

Sanford, NC (July 27, 2017) – Central Carolina Hospital announced today that Caroline Summers D.O., will join its staff on August 1, 2017 and will be offering Obstetrics and Gynecology to patients throughout Sanford. Dr. Summers is the 13th provider to join the hospital’s medical staff this year.

“Dr. Summers has training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and her specialties include prenatal care and delivery, birth control, well woman exams, hysterectomy, laparoscopy, and pre-pregnancy counseling.  She is an excellent addition to our medical staff,” said John Maxwell, CEO of Central Carolina Hospital.  “Dr. Summers joining our team is important as Central Carolina Hospital strives to meet our region’s evolving healthcare needs and make our community healthier.”

Dr. Summers joins Central Carolina Hospital from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA where she managed labor, antepartum and triage patients on the Labor and Delivery Unit, participated in obstetric and gynecologic surgical procedures, provided patient care at the resident gynecology and obstetrics clinic, and taught medical and physician assistant students during their OB/GYN rotation.  Previously, she has been an author and a research assistant at Triangle Neurosurgery in Raleigh, NC, compiling research manuscripts for a neurosurgery practice and maintained patient databases for various studies.

 Dr. Summers is a graduate of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. She completed her Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.  Dr. Summers received her Masters of Science in Nutrition and her Bachelor of Science with Nutrition Concentration from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. She specializes in prenatal care and delivery, birth control, well woman exams, hysterectomy, laparoscopy, and pre-pregnancy counseling.

Dr. Summers will begin seeing patients at Carolina Women’s Health Center of Sanford starting August 1, 2017.  Appointments can be made by calling 919.775.2304.
