Rehabilitation Services-Physical and Occupational Therapy

Kim Widrick, MSPT, MDT - Director of Rehab Services

Central Carolina Hospital's Rehabilitation Department offers outpatient and inpatient physical and occupational therapy services for persons with musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopedic conditions.  Our licensed staff provides physical therapy seven days a week for inpatients and outpatients requiring wound care services.  Outpatients are treated Monday-Friday at our free-standing clinic at Central Carolina Hospital.  Aquatic therapy and step down programs are offered at a local health club to promote an improved continuum of care after discharge.  Our staff of experienced clinicians treat a variety of musculoskeletal diagnoses and surgeries including:

  • acute neck and back pain
  • fractures of the spine or extremities
  • total hip or knee replacements
  • sports injuries
  • hand injuring including tendon repair, carpal tunnel syndrome
  • work related injuries
  • motor vehicle accident injuries

Treatment programs are available for persons with

  • osteoporosis
  • arthritis
  • balance and vestibular dysfunction
  • incontinence

Special services such as Functional Capacity Evaluations and prosthetics and orthotics are also available.

An occupational therapist is available to evaluate and treat persons with hand and arm injuries such as wrist fractures; crush injuries and cumulative trauma disorders of the hand and upper extremity. Custom splints are fabricated for persons recovering from tendon or nerve repair surgeries. Adaptive equipment and training is available for those suffering functional loss after surgery or injury.

Offering a continuum of care is vital to our patients. Our licensed staff sees patients preoperatively, during the acute hospitalization, and as outpatients. Once a person is ready for discharge, we encourage participation in the step down maintenance program offered at a local health club. Returning to maximum functioning is the main goal in Rehabilitation Services.

Patients are referred to the physical/occupational therapy department by a physician and must have a signed prescription for therapy. The Rehabilitation Department is open extended hours for your convenience. Please call the department at (919) 774-2255 to schedule an appointment. Pre-registration is available and is encouraged. Remember to dress comfortably for your appointment. Persons with knee or back injuries may wish to bring shorts for the examination process.

Rehabilitation Services is most easily accessed by entering the outpatient entrance on Fields Drive, near the Emergency Department. The building is free-standing building is located next to the ER parking area.  For further information, please call (919) 774-2255.
