The Obstetrics Department at Central Carolina Hospital is a Level II unit providing inpatient OB services, nursery services, and prenatal outpatient childbirth preparation classes.

Labor & Delivery Suites

Central Carolina Hospital’s newly expanded birthing center consists of 5 private and spacious labor and delivery suites. We have taken measures to make these rooms as comfortable as possible. Our birthing suites provide additional amenities private bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs, sleeper sofas for dads, central monitoring, and in room infant care areas. The Labor and Delivery Unit provides management of premature labor, fetal surveillance and delivery of term infants. This unit maintains an outreach relationship with UNC Hospital to advise and facilitate the transfer of premature labor patients and other high risk OB’s.

Nursery Services

The Level Two nursery provides care to well neonates and also those who require supportive care. Those infants who require intubation and ventilation are stabilized with the proper equipment and then transferred to a tertiary care facility. The nursery is equipped with Isolettes to care for stable premature infants who require time to grow, and bilights for the infant with hyperbilirubinemia.

Mother/baby "room in" service

Our mother/baby "room in" service allows you to be with, and care for, your newborn for as many daytime hours as you wish during your in-hospital stay. If you choose, your baby may spend time in the nursery where there are systems in place to help keep your baby safe and securely monitored.

Educational videos and nurse consultations

These are available at your request. We’ll give you the latest information and practical advice on breastfeeding, formula feeding, bathing for baby, or any other topic of interest or concern to you.

Your visitors

Our standard visiting hours are from 12:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., but they remain flexible to accommodate your family. In keeping with our family centered philosophy, we strongly encourage siblings to visit. If they are under the age of 14, they should be accompanied by an adult. Please make sure siblings and visitors have no sign or fever, colds or other infections when they come to visit, simply as a precaution for you and your baby.

Our staff

Our professionally trained staff is ready to assist you in learning more about your baby. Each member of our staff has been selected for their obstetrical experience, family orientation, enthusiasm, and gentle supportive approach.

Childbirth Education Classes

The following childbirth education classes are offered through Central Carolina Hospital:  Childbirth Preparation, Parenting, Breastfeeding, and Infant Safety and Pediatric CPR.  All classes take place on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in Central Carolina Hospital’s Community Classroom.
