If you’ve ridden by Central Carolina Hospital in the last few months, you’ve noticed the construction taking place on the Fields Drive side of the hospital. A 15 month renovation and expansion project to the Labor and Delivery wing is now underway. Phase one of the project, which consisted of securing existing columns in the surgical waiting area to withstand a second story, has been completed. Phase 2 of the construction process has started with construction moving to the second story to build the 7,000 square foot addition. It is anticipated that Phase 3 and 4 of the construction process will begin in January, which will consist of renovating the existing Labor and Delivery wing.
The new unit will have 5 labor and delivery suites, all with a shower and Jacuzzi in the room. These labor and delivery rooms will be much more spacious than the existing rooms and will contain modernized equipment. Central monitoring will also be installed so that nurses and physicians have the ability to monitor patients from the nurse’s station. Computerized charting is also an added benefit of the new unit, in that it can allow more time for the nurses to spend with their patients. The new facility will also have 17 private post partum rooms, where the existing area has private and semi private post partum rooms.
Central Carolina Hospital’s prognosis for Lee County is positive. CCH’s ongoing women’s services expansion project will allow our community hospital to continue to meet the health care needs of Lee County and surrounding areas.
Central Carolina Hospital would like to thank everyone for their patience during this construction process. We apologize for any inconvenience that it has caused to our patients and visitors.
