Central Carolina Hospital Adds 16 Telemetry Units

February 09, 2007

Central Carolina Hospital will be adding 16 more telemetry units, increasing their total monitoring capacity to 32, for use in cardiac services. Telemetry is a sophisticated system that enables staff members to continuously observe a patient’s heart rhythm from a centralized monitoring station. Patients can be monitored even as they move around the unit. Cardiac telemetry measures heart rhythm and rate in order to look for significant changes.

“Our overall objective is to provide quality care to our patients, this is just one of the steps we are taking to ensure that”, stated Central Carolina Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Doug Doris. The central telemetry monitoring unit will still be located in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

According to Chief Nursing Officer, Ursula Lawrence, the new telemetry equipment includes advanced wireless capabilities. “This means when one of our patients in the telemetry unit needs to go to another area of the hospital for tests or treatments, the wireless monitoring system allows the nurses to continue to observe their condition.”
